Los Bandidos del Achterhoek
In May 1890, Prince Raven — in an effort to normalize relations with the Ariëns Administration – opened up the border at the Silver Shadow, with the apparent intention of letting some inhabitants of his totalitarian regime join their relatives in the Free Republic of Twente.
Within seventy-two hours, hundreds of horse drawn wagons were headed towards the borders of the Lankheter Forest. In the next few weeks, it became evident that Prince Raven was forcing people not only to ride back with their relatives, but also the dregs of his jail population. By the time the border at the Silver Shadow was closed, an estimated 4.000 Raven-people had landed in Enschede.
An estimated 1.000 of them had criminal records. This is the story of that minority – those they call ‘Los Bandidos del Achterhoek’.
